Home Based Learning

Read Write Inc at Home.

Picture
In Read, Write, Inc. lessons, students learn a new sound each day so they can de-code and read words.

Below is a link to a RWI resource with videos introducing new sounds.

A new video is released every 24 hours and can be used for learning at home.

There are 3 videos. The video your child view's at home should match with their RWI group at school.

Set 1 Sounds – Foundation students.

Set 2 Sounds – Students in Green, Purple and Pink RWI groups.

Set 3 Sounds – Students in Orange, Yellow, Blue and Grey groups.

A daily RWI lesson plan could include the following:

  1. Review the sounds using the speed sound cards. (See files Set 1, Set 2, Set 3)
  2. Watch the RWI video with your child.
    E.g ‘ay’

  3. Practice handwriting the introduced sound from the video - ensure your child is using the correct formation.
    E.g ‘ay’
The following steps are for year Year 1 and 2 students:
  1. Ask your child to sound out and then spell/write the words introduced with the new sound.
    E.g ‘p-l-ay’    ‘s-ay’              ‘m-ay’                        ‘t-r-ay’
  2. Write a sentence for each new word.
E.g ‘I like to play with my toy cars.’ ‘I need to stay inside when it is raining.’
  3. Correct any spelling mistakes with your child.

Handwriting support

When beginning to learn how to write letters the most important skill students need to develop is how to ..
form letters using the correct starting position.

If they can do this they will develop good writing habits and continually improve.
